Overrated.
My review might seem excessive, but with these reasons I am laying out my opinion:
1. Literary poverty: I could count on one hand the metaphors, anaphors... that Yarros used. Aside from the fact that many times you can't tell where you are, what's happening, or whether a character just died or not.
2. Flat characters: I only need to talk about the protagonist for "flat characters" to make sense. Because at first, you can put up with that "cliché" girl, but after failing, messing up... the character remains the same, nothing has changed about the protagonist we are presented with from the first to the last book.
3. Toxic romance: What annoyed me the most about this issue is that they present the book's romance as something beautiful and sentimental. Since it's a completely physical relationship. There is no romance, only desire. And it's telling 14-year-old girls reading this book that if a man loves you only for your looks, it's love. That if you like a man only for his appearance, it's love.
