Prey
Prey (2017 video game) Trailer
Talos I, Abandoned and Watching You
Few immersive sims in recent memory commit as fully to their premise as this one. Developed by Arkane Studios, the team behind the Dishonored series, Prey arrived in 2017 as a standalone title with no connection to the 2006 game sharing its name, and promptly became one of the most underappreciated releases of its generation.
The Experience
You play as Morgan Yu, a researcher aboard Talos I, a space station overrun by alien entities called the Typhon. The core loop is that of an immersive sim: scavenge, craft, upgrade, and find creative solutions to obstacles using a combination of human skills and increasingly alien abilities. The station functions as a single interconnected space, and the freedom to approach it in almost any order is genuinely rare in the genre.
What sets Prey apart is how it rewards lateral thinking. A locked door is never just a locked door when a GLOO cannon, a recycling grenade, or a well-placed ability can reframe the entire situation.
Who Should Play This
A full playthrough runs roughly 20 to 25 hours, longer if you read every email and chase every side objective, and we think you should. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and carries a moderate to high difficulty curve that punishes impatience but rewards careful observation. Players comfortable with games like Deus Ex or the original BioShock will feel at home immediately.

One of the best immersive sims on the market
You play as a nepo-baby scientist (Morgan Yu) trying to combat an alien invasion onboard a high-tech space station. However, throughout the numerous issues you try to solve, you're given unlimited strategies and abilities to go about it. It can't be understated how much this game rewards multiple plays; you'll constantly find new approaches as you play multiple times.
Ironically, the most poignant part of the story is the trouble you can take to help the other humans onboard, who may or may not be doomed anyway.
