When Netflix dropped this reimagining of the Addams Family's most deadpan daughter, it became one of the platform's most-watched English-language series almost immediately. The cultural moment was real, and the series earned it.

Jenna Ortega's performance is the engine here. She plays Wednesday with a stillness that borders on unsettling, never winking at the audience, never softening the character's contempt for warmth. It is a performance that could have tipped into parody and never does.

The Concept

Wednesday Addams arrives at Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for outcasts with supernatural abilities, after being expelled from a string of ordinary schools. The series mixes a murder mystery plot with coming-of-age tensions, rival social factions, and Wednesday's emerging psychic visions. The tone sits somewhere between gothic teen drama and dry comedy, and the balance mostly holds.

The show draws on the Addams Family legacy without being beholden to it. Wednesday's parents appear, her brother Pugsley surfaces briefly, but the series builds its own world rather than replaying familiar dynamics.
