Dumb Fun
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are the heart of the movie. If they didn’t play Bill and Ted to perfection, then this movie wouldn’t be worth watching. It would’ve been so easy for Bill and Ted to have just been annoying, but they’re such sweet guys that you can’t help but like them. It’s so insane to see these two actors at such a young age, too! George Carlin’s really fun here, too. It’s odd seeing him play such a chill guy.
Like many time travel movies, things can fall apart if you think about it too hard. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is NOT a movie about thinking. It’s about being a late 80s kid who likes playing air guitar and hates school. And even as someone born in the 2000s, I loved it.
My biggest warning, and the reason the movie is shy of five stars, is that there is some stuff that’s aged like milk. In particular, a slur is used. It’s very of the time, the equivalent to how people would throw “gay” around to describe things when I was a kid. But it caught me off guard, so I figured it’d be best to warn you in advance.
