A Friendship Rekindled in Epic Fantasy

Imagine the scent of woodsmoke and old leather. That's the world Robin Hobb creates in her Realm of the Elderlings series.

The Story

Fitz and the Fool continues the saga of FitzChivalry Farseer. Fitz is now older and seeks a quiet life. But destiny, in the form of his bond with the Fool, has other plans. They are drawn back into political intrigue and ancient mysteries. The fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance.

What Makes This Book Unique

Published in 2014, this novel blends the genres of high fantasy and character-driven fiction. The original language is English. Hobb's prose is known for its emotional depth and intricate world-building. The series explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the cost of power. Some compare her work to that of Ursula K. Le Guin, because of the focus on inner lives.

Who Should Read This

This will appeal to readers who enjoy complex characters and detailed fantasy worlds. Newcomers should start with the first book in the series, Assassin's Apprentice. Be warned, the series is lengthy and deals with mature themes like loss and betrayal.

A Trilogy to Say Goodbye

Not quite as strong as the second trilogy of the Farseer series, but better than the first, definitely worth reading to bid farewell to Fitz. It's a bittersweet journey that tugs at your heartstrings. 🥲
