The Wheels Turn... Slowly... but Surely
Yes, the series is often criticized for its slow pace, and this critique isn’t entirely unwarranted. Some volumes take their time… and then some more. But honestly, this slowness is part of what makes the world feel so alive. The multiple perspectives help build a tangible universe. The cultures are rich, the politics intricate, and the magic system feels ancient and coherent. Nothing is rushed. When major events happen, they feel earned because we've experienced every step of the journey.
And I have to say: shout out to Mat Cauthon. :) To me, he's the unsung hero of the saga. What starts as a mischievous side character slowly evolves into one of the most charismatic, complex, and heroic figures (often against his own wishes) in the entire story. His outrageous luck, his humor, his reluctant leadership: he steals the show without ever really trying to claim it. You might even be tempted to skip certain chapters just to get back faster to those focused on our favorite character. Every time he appears, there's a shift in energy.
It's worth noting that this series was adapted into a TV show, The Wheel of Time, which doesn't quite live up to the richness of the novels. Visually ambitious as it may be, it often feels like it has simplified everything,as if the patience and depth defining the books were sacrificed for pacing.
Despite its flaws and that infamous mid-series lull, The Wheel of Time remains, in my eyes, a cornerstone work of fantasy literature. It taught me that sometimes the journey matters more than the destination, and that if you’re willing to follow the Wheel long enough, it always rewards you in the end.

Pour la série Amazon, il me semble qu'elle est abandonnée, dommage car je trouvais qu'elle s'améliorait avec le temps.
