Bobiverse

The Bobiverse is one of the rare 3-star series I'd still recommend (though not above any 4-star or 5-star series). It's a bit like Dungeon Crawler Carl in feel--less serious and a bit flippant. But DCC pulls it off much better. The Bobiverse tries and doesn't quite succeed at being "hard sci-fi," just as it tries and doesn't quite succeed at being humorous. Much of the humor in the novels feels stiff and...unfunny. On top of that, I have issues with the pacing of the novels. For example, book 4 is far longer than the others, yet its plot is much less high-stakes and much less exciting.

But despite all its flaws, I'm still enjoying the series for what it is. It's an entertaining read that explores some sides of the AI debate that I haven't spent much time considering. Even if it's not one I'll read again, it was good enough to finish the series at least once.
