Dragon Ball of the Highest Caliber

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is a goddamn masterpiece. First off, the animation is gorgeous. The characters' movements are all so fluid, and that really helps when it comes to the fighting. The choreography is great, too! A lot of people complain that Dragon Ball fights devolved into high speed punching, kicking, and beam attacks without much thought put into it. Here, the fights are clearly well thought out. I love how you can tell so much about the character by how they move in battle. Broly's movements are always large and savage when he's enraged. Goku is a lot lighter on his feet, and Vegeta is more calculated. It's just great to look at.

This movie also fixed Broly. He was always carried by his pure, unadulterated aura before. His story was pretty bad. Now, Broly has an actually interesting character instead of just being a big hulking maniac who shouts "KAKAROT!" all the time. I enjoyed seeing the inner workings of the Frieza Force, too. Cheelai and Lemo were fun, and they're welcome additions to the already massive cast. We also get to see a redux of Goku's origin. I am a little sad to see some elements of Bardock's story go, like his bloodstained headband. But I do like that we get to see him and Gine! They're very sweet.

We also get to see Gogeta in an officially canon film for the first time, since he'd only appeared in non-canon material (Fusion Reborn and GT) before. GT absolutely gave him personality, but it's nice to see him actually talk here. He's not a copy of Vegito, which I appreciate.

If you're a fan of Dragon Ball, watch this. You don't even really need to be caught up on Super, since most of the relevant stuff is explained.
