Baldur's Gate 3: A Return to the Realms with a Modern Touch

When Larian Studios, known for their work on the Divinity series, announced they were developing the next installment of Baldur's Gate, fans were ecstatic. After years without a fresh entry, expectations were sky-high. However, what truly excites is how it bridges classic Dungeons & Dragons lore with cutting-edge role-playing mechanics, enriching both worlds.

The Experience

In "Baldur's Gate 3," players find themselves amidst a realm brimming with magic, intrigue, and danger. You step into the shoes of an intricate protagonist caught in a struggle against mind-flayers who implant you with a dangerous parasite. Expect deep choice-driven gameplay where every decision branches into unforeseen consequences. The fusion of turn-based combat and open-ended exploration makes the progression as addictive as it is unpredictable.

What Sets It Apart

The game triumphs in art direction, with breathtaking landscapes that feel alive and characters teeming with personality. The musical score echoes in the mind long after sessions end,an atmospheric blend of epic orchestration and haunting melodies. Its narrative depth is complemented by technical marvels: interactive dialogues and dynamic environmental interactions place it deftly in the studio's evolution from "Divinity: Original Sin II" to now.

Who Should Play This

This game calls out to veterans of role-playing games and new enthusiasts alike, especially those who cherish deep storytelling and strategic combat. With dozens of hours of gameplay awaiting exploration, it's available on major platforms like PC and macOS. While no prior knowledge of previous titles is mandatory, familiarizing oneself with D&D lore may enhance the immersion substantially.

Best 278+ hours gameplay of my life

Baldur’s Gate 3 is honestly one of those games that just completely pulls you in and doesn’t let go.

The gameplay is super fun once you get into it. Turn-based combat that somehow turns into total chaos in the best way. You’re constantly finding creative solutions, whether that’s talking your way out of fights or accidentally setting everything on fire and still winning.
The story starts simple but quickly becomes this huge, personal adventure about survival, identity, and the choices you make along the way. It really feels like your story.

The characters are the real highlight though. They feel alive, messy, and memorable and yes, Astarion absolutely steals the spotlight (for me I love this man). He’s charming, dramatic, a little dangerous, and way too easy to get attached to. His story alone is worth the ride.
Add in amazing voice acting, a powerful soundtrack, and gorgeous visuals, and you’ve got a game that feels less like playing and more like living inside a fantasy world. It’s chaotic, emotional, funny, and unforgettable. 💕

Well worth 100+ hours of gameplay

As a veteran Baldur's Gate player, my expectations were very high for this entry to the franchise. If anything, Larian Studios managed to exceed my expectations.

Since BG3 utilizes turn-based combat and the 5E D&D ruleset, you're encouraged to attack situations creatively, especially from playthrough to playthrough. Sometimes, the amount of choices available is almost overwhelming, and this is where it becomes most helpful to roleplay your character. Speaking of characters, the options for builds, backgrounds, and classes are virtually limitless. My two playthroughs felt drastically different from a gameplay perspective, as well as the choices I made. My brother has invested more than 2000 hours and still continues to create new experiences.

My initial run through BG3 was marred by some performance issues that were quickly patched, but it's very difficult to find negatives to pick out with a game this good. Between the voice acting, plot, replay-ability, and nostalgic hits built in for BG veterans, this entry is an easy 9/10 for me, maybe even a 9.5.

Tales, Exploration, and Strategic Battles

Baldur's Gate 3 was highly anticipated, with the first two games having left a lasting impression on an entire generation of role-playing game enthusiasts. Larian has absolutely nailed it: every detail is masterfully crafted, from the artistic direction to the interface, playability, music, and dialogues. The characters and storylines are intricate, making it an absolute joy to step into their shoes, make choices, and dive into the narrative. The battles are as tactical as they come; for the toughest ones, every little detail matters: your team's positioning, the right build, using skills at just the right moment on exactly the right targets... In this genre, you simply can't find anything better.
