Beating an undead horse
There's simply no reason besides money to try to create any more content with the Walking Dead IP now.
The story takes place in a Manhattan cut off from the mainland, but the first season was filmed in New Jersey between July and October 2022. Its locations include the Meadowlands Arena, Hoboken Terminal, Liberty State Park and a road called Shades of Death Road. The second and third seasons were filmed in Massachusetts, first in Taunton and then in Brockton, Boston and Worcester.
AMC announced the series in March 2022 under the title Isle of the Dead and renamed it that August. Eli Jorné, a writer on The Walking Dead, created it and ran it as showrunner for two seasons, before Seth Hoffman took over for the third. Ian Hultquist composed the music.
Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) leads a community of survivors when her son Hershel is kidnapped by the Croat, a sadistic former member of the Saviors whose gang has taken control of Manhattan. To find Hershel, she turns to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the man who killed her husband Glenn and who is now on the run from the marshals of the New Babylon Federation. Together they travel into a city filled with the dead and with survivors who have made it their own world.
The series is a sequel to the television series The Walking Dead, in which Cohan and Morgan already played these roles, and the fifth series in the franchise. Both characters come from the comic book by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.
Three seasons of 40 to 50 minute episodes have aired on AMC: six episodes in 2023, eight in 2025 and eight more from July to September 2026. When the third season ended, AMC had not announced whether there would be a fourth. The series is rated TV-MA in the United States, and Common Sense Media recommends it from age 15 for gory and brutal violence, with people shown being cut, falling to their deaths and being eaten, and for strong language.
