An Excellent Anthology Series
Ok I can’t remain in character as the Cryptkeeper for the whole review, as much as I dearly wish I could. Tales from the Crypt is a great horror anthology series. It doesn’t have the timeless morality tales of The Twilight Zone, but it has got one thing in spades: HORROR. Violence! Bad language! Boobies! Sex! All those things that made the original comics frighten so many mothers back when they came out.
Not every episode is a winner. It’s a long series, that’s sort of a given. But the show revels in its own terror, which is almost always really fun to watch. Sometimes you get some more serious takes on the genre, but the vast majority of the episodes are like their own little B-movies. I mean that in the most positive way possible.
There are a lot of celebrity appearances throughout, as well as some experienced directors from within and outside of horror. But for me, the highlight has always been The Cryptkeeper himself. Not only is he just a real impressive animatronic, but I just can’t help but love this guy. His constant puns, his iconic laugh, and his ghoulish sense of humor make me smile ear to ear.
If you like horror, you can’t really go wrong with Tales from the Crypt. And don’t worry; none of the episodes are really connected to each other! Just pick one you think will be interesting and watch!
