You wander around a big map, using Aniipods* (* similar to Pokéballs) to catch all the Aniimo you cross paths with and log them in a sort of Pokédex, and every discovery earns you coins that you can spend in the "Grocery" store and in the second city in the game where players from all over the world gather, with clothing shops for you and your Aniimo, accessories... You have 4 Aniimo accompanying you in battle, you face Pioneers to unlock badges and increase your character's and your Aniimos' level. There are story quests and side quests. You can choose to roam the meadows, mountains, glaciers with your character or transform into the skin of your favorite Aniimo ^^. It's a free-to-play game on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, and iOS/Android. You can play with up to 4 players cross-platform and certain Sanctuaries and other in-game events "force" you to play with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4* (* like for the current egg hunt where you need to be 4 players).
You also have an RV, your home that you can decorate as you please by leveling it up, and put your Aniimo to work for your machines or your vegetable garden.
A hassle-free game that really helps you unwind. Personally, I play it a lot before playing a multiplayer game like Rainbow Six Siege, and often after to relax and destress 😅☺️

The first 45 minutes nearly bored me to tears, as it involved almost entirely skulking through shadows and hiding with few ways of evading (or attacking enemies) and even fewer ways to solve puzzles. Over time, your toolkit grows to where you can choose how to handle encounters and puzzles, but even at its peak, the gameplay elements were sorely lacking. To make matters worse, you have to switch to a different point-of-view character for 30-45 minutes near the end, and all your abilities are taken from you--back to just skulking and hiding. I did like the story and setting a lot, but the game itself isn't one I'll revisit. Also not planning to play the sequel.

As a side note, Nicolas Cage is also spider-man, but hey, that's beside the point 😉

Here is a installment where romance has at least as much room as action.

Then comes the story, three Androids, three different personalities but the same vision. Throughout the game, I slipped into the shoes of Kara and Marcus (mostly), playing the cop was nice but I didn't care for him all that much, he took his job way too seriously, blindly obeying the rules and I'm a rebel at heart. So, playing Marcus who takes care of a disabled person and playing Kara who plays the maid for a guy who spends his time boozing and hitting his daughter, Alice, you can imagine that as a gamer this character really touched me. The storyline itself is very well written. There are plenty of narrative phases, police investigations (worthy of Heavy Rain), chases, puzzles, emotional moments... Anyway, between the characters' stories, the human NPCs, the environments and the OST, this game draws you into a future world that we will know one day...

I think wanting to escape something that we all can relate to at times and, given the Jones' family rocky introduction to their new town, it especially makes sense in Coraline's case. She's easy to root for and very capable yet not so much that it takes you out of the story. The soundtrack is incredible. Seriously, whether it's the score or the children's choir, every bit of music stands out so beautifully and so creepily, it's just perfect. The costume design is also very well done. From Coraline's iconic yellow raincoat and blue hair to Wybie's jacket and mask to honestly everything about the Other Mother, it's easy to see why, year after year, people dress as them for Halloween. Also, there's a weird cat. What's not to love? So far as recommendations go, I think fans of films such as Paranorman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Corpse Bride should give this a chance due to them also being stop motion animated, as well as the similar creepy yet family friendly atmospheres.

Admittedly, there is a fair bit of retconning, and I do think Peir could've been made more distinct from Tinker Bell, but I love it all the same. The unexpected politics between the warm fairies and the cold fairies, the relationship between Tinker Bell and Periwinkle, the Clarion/Milori backstory, the final race to frost everything before THAT happens. It's just bursting with intrigue, so much so that I was very happy when Disney revisited this film specifically in some of the more recent books. I would recommend this to Disney fans in general, as well as fans of Trolls: World Tour due to non-spoilery reasons.

For one thing, it's both a Halloween movie and a Christmas, so I can watch it during either fall or winter and still feel on theme. Let's see: the stop motion animation? Superb. The music? Unprecedented. The characterization, the plot, the themes, THE VIBES? Just, the chef's kiss. There's a reason why every year on October 1st, this is the first movie I watch to get me in the Halloween spirit. Jack's such a chaotic yet so simultaneously endearing main character. He makes some mistakes, some admittedly more catastrophic than others, but he has the best intentions and ultimately works very hard to correct those mistakes. Just a fascinating character arc to watch unfold. Then of course, there's the worldbuilding. Halloweentown, Christmastown, and the human world all have so much personality that they might as well be their own characters. It's also really fun to see the Halloween characters getting so invested in Christmas, the chaos that ensues, and the aftermath of both towns ending on friendly terms. I would recommend this to fans of other stop motion animated movies such as Coraline, Paranorman, The Corpse Bride, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and family friendly Halloween movies in general.
